Description
Rooted in ancient Hawaiian teachings, Island Wisdom takes readers beyond the surface of beautiful beaches and vacation living to gain a deeper understanding of the Hawaiian Islands. Native Hawaiian and cultural expert Kainoa Daines has spent many years teaching visitors to the islands about this time-honoured wisdom, and now he has teamed up with journalist Annie Daly to share a beautiful book exploring four foundations of Hawaiian living: ALOHA (love), AINA (land), MO'OLELO (stories), and 'OHANA (family). Filled with the voices and guidance of Hawaiian elders, local folklore, traditional recipes, and age-old teachings - from how to make true island-style poke and how to malama 'aina (preserve and protect the land) to how to be pono everyday (live a life of balance). Including gorgeous local photography and illustrations throughout, Island Wisdom is a celebration of Hawai'i's language, culture, and values for living a more harmonious, giving, and joyful life.
