Description
Independent, practical guidance on the structural design of polymer composites is provided for the first time in this book. Structural designers familiar with design of conventional structural materials such as steel and concrete will be able to use it to design a broad raqnfge of polymeric composites for structural applications, using glass fibre reinforced plastic materials, components, connections and assemblies. Principal advantages of structural polymeric composites are their ability to be designed with a wide range of structural properties, combined with excellent corrosion resistance and light weight. The first comprises a code of recommended practice. Extensive background information and summary technical reports of research carried out during the development of the Design Code are also included. Structural Design of Polymer Composites has been written and compiled by the 17 members of the European Structural Polymeric Composites Group (EUROCOMP) - a pan-European group of consulting engineers, materials specialists, government agencies and research institutes - supported by funding under the EUREKA Initiative.
Reviews'...this is a worthwhile book for practising designers for the library of any organization involved in the business of composite structures.' - Composite Structures 'A document of special importance...likely to become a de facto accepted standard for the design of pultruded structural FRP products in Europe and elsewhere...' - Journal of Composites for Construction 'This book offers a comprehensive and practical guidance on structural design of polymer composites.' - RAPRA
