Description

Dr. Walcyk combines a sense of adventure, a message of perseverance and enjoyment of the beauty of nature in this book. An inspiration to write this book developed out of a wish to share encouragement to young people to strive to do something different in life and fulfill their dreams. She describes her adventures while working with the Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia. The book describes how she was able to live in the vast outback area of Western Australia while providing medical care to inhabitants in remote areas of Australia. The inhabitants include metal miners, sheep station farmers and Aboriginals. It describes how these people live, their belief systems and how Western medical care integrates with Aboriginal belief systems. Aborignal culture has existed and thrived for over 50,000 years. They are a thriving culture that has kept their belief system intact. They respect the land and the land is part of their beings. What does this really mean? Dr. Walcyk shares excitement, awe and beauty of the outback.
