Description

Many prisoners attempted the 'Home Run', the escape from German PoW camps. World War I escaper, Alfred Evans inspired many prisoners, and he, in turn, took up his pen to narrate many of the famous escapes of Word War II, including prisoners from the notorious Colditz Castle. Escape was the first problem, the second was to succeed in evasion.

Author Biography

Alfred John Evans was a moderate cricketer who played for Oxford University, Hampshire, Kent and England. Perhaps his greater distinction was as a pilot with the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War. He was shot down and interned in Ingolstadt, a camp for persistent escapers and the First World War counterpart to Colditz. This inspired Evans to write The Escaping Club and Escape and Liberation, 1940-45, the latter dedicated to those brave POWs who evaded capture, including the infamous Colditz Castle.
