Description

This book deals with Dave Bing, Renaissance Man. What kind of person loses sight in one eye only to become one of the NBA's top 50 players ever? What kind of person builds a start-up company into a thriving corporation, reaches out to black youths to provide counsel and support and, instead of enjoying a luxurious retirement, chooses to become mayor of Detroit? Dave Bing, that's who. Bing's story is a compelling against-all-odds story charting his loss of sight in one eye as a child through to his election as mayor of Detroit. Along the way, Bing has conquered every racial, institutional and societal challenge he has encountered with determination, savvy and persistence. From the hall of fame to city hall, Dave Bing tells the story of a rich, full and inspiring life while examining these achievements in the context of the black experience in Detroit and the United States.
