Description

Includes accessible summaries of best practice in childcare and long-term care policies from Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland, this book gives policymakers lessons in what could be feasible to achieve in care policy and gender equality across different policy contexts, including in devolved and federal administrations Drawing on comparative research from five countries, What Works in Improving gender equality provides an accessible analysis of what gender equality means and how we can achieve it by adapting best practices in care policies from other countries. Realistic policy solutions are reached by examining the contexts in which childcare and longterm care policies are developed, and what difficulties might need to be overcome in applying the lessons from different international models. Available Open Access under CC-BY-NC licence. 'This book is unique as it is based on international comparative research and it builds an innovative framework for the analysis of gender equality outcomes of childcare and long-term care policies.' - Teppo Kroeger, University of Jyvaskyla 'An important contribution to the evidence base on how to improve gender equality in childcare and long-term care. It carefully takes the reader through reform options and assesses which are most applicable in the UK. A useful resource for those looking to shift policy on care towards more a gender equal approach.' - Catherine Needham, University of Birmingham
