It provides comprehensive, accessible and authoritative accounts of all the key topics in the field ranging from theories of ageing, to demography, physical aspects of ageing, mental processes and ageing, nursing and health care for older people, the social context of ageing, cross cultural perspectives, relationships, quality of life, gender, and financial and policy provision. Reviews

'... recommended to staff, students and professionals. ... the book is excellent value.' Ageing & Society '... the thinkers contributing to The Cambridge Handbook of Age and Ageing offer us substantial hope that the 'incomplete biocultural architecture of lifespan development' can grow-and-defend in a positive direction. ... a new sense of uniqueness, inspiration, creative receptivity and equilibrium between the internal and external worlds of experience opens and allows for a new ethic of compassion, of giving of oneself to others.'
