Description

Charlie the dog is excited about his first day at a new school, but when he gets there, he finds it full of cats! The difference is quite a shock for Charlie, who isn't sure how to cope with the language barrier or the unfamiliar culture. How can he make new friends? Like many others, he finds the answer in the library! Over time, Charlie adjusts to his new school and finds that his unique canine traits are valued by his classmates. A perfect picture book for children who are starting a new school - particularly one in a different country. It takes a realistic approach, showing young readers that it takes time to settle into a new environment and that if you reach out to others, they will meet you half way. The detailed illustrations provide plenty to talk about on each page and there are many visual jokes to point out.

Author Biography

Courtney Dicmas is the author and illustrator of The Great Googly Moogly, Home Tweet Home, Lemur Dreamer, and Harold Finds A Voice. She teaches Illustration at Madison College and lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her spoon carving husband, four adventurous chickens and the real Charlie. The real Charlie was adopted as a rescue dog in Southend-on-Sea, UK, and then moved to Madison, in 2015. He loves chasing tennis balls, scrumpling up soft rugs, and pretending he's invisible under the blankets. Every day is his best day ever.
