Description
Mummy and Lila are going to visit Grandpa, but Lila is busy in her own imaginative world. Whenever Mummy asks her what she is doing, she always says, "Nothing!" Only the reader is allowed in to her colourful, crazy, creative world where she is wrestling an octopus, or racing along in a winged chariot, or flying with birds over a noisy jungle. But Grandpa has a plan to join Lila in her secret world. After all, playing is even more fun when you play together! Bursting with energy and colour, this is a joyous celebration of the imagination and creativity that will speak to child and adult alike. Yasmeen Ismail won the V&A Illustration Award 2014 and has been shortlisted for the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize. I'm a Girl! has been nominated for the Kate Greenaway Award.

ReviewsPraise for I'm a Girl!: Teachers, get this for your KS1 and Reception classes. Parents, get this for your kids (girls AND boys). Anyone who cares about equality and moving forward and helping to make our society better for everyone, spread the word. I'M A GIRL! can help to change the world. Whilst brightening it with stunning colours and fab pictures at the same time * Jo Cotterill * Picture books that draw the line against pink stereotypes of girls ... There's no better rallying cry for girls to whom princesses are anathema ... Ismail exactly captures the wrong-footing frustration felt by girls who don't fit the princess mould, as well as the pride they take in their strong, swift bodies * Guardian * Brilliantly exuberant, funny and full of joy: a book to cherish. If only all children had the confidence to be true to themselves like the girl and her new-found friend herein. If I had my way a copy would be given to all young children before they start school or nursery * Red Reading Hub * We could kiss Yasmeen for delivering this perfectly packaged story, with its clear message and delectably diverse characters. Executed in a deceptively simple way, this picture book is perfect for a younger, more impressionable audience * Picture Books Blogger * A riotously colourful and energetic picture book that celebrates individuality and personal freedom * Junior Magazine * Every so often a book comes along which makes the whole family laugh, and I'm A Girl! by Yasmeen Ismail did just that! * Muff and Teacake * As the father of a daughter, I am delighted for the arrival of this book * Magpie That * A really fantastic book that every child should read if not own, to see it's ok for them to just be themselves * Once Upon a Bookcase *
