Author Biography
Mairie Hedderwick was born in Gourrock. She left the mainland for the Isle of Coll where she and her crofting husband brought up their young family. She has never quite left the island - and still returns to paint, and to ponder the island life which has enriched her craft for so long.
ReviewsDelightful story of an otter family and, as ever, charming illustrations. -- The Times 20060418 In the Otterleys Mairi Hedderwick has a found a spirited animal alternative to the much-loved Katie Morag and her family, while her watery, winter landscapes full of wildlife are as delightful as ever. -- Julia Eccleshare, The Guardian 20060418 The lovely watercolour drawings and rhyming narrative makes this a charming book that is bound to be a delightful read and family favourite. -- The Lady 20061010 Mairi Hedderwick is 'a great storyteller.' -- Shelf Life: Scottish Book Trust Quarterly 20061010 PRAISE FOR A WALK WITH GRANNIE: 'A feast of visual detail and a simple child centred text work prefectly together to create a rhytmic book for sharing' - Reading Evening Post 'The appeal of this particular book lies in the simple text, which is very child-friendly and in the tiny details in the illustrations.' - Writing Magazine 20061010 Exquisite watercolour pictures, full of movement and detail are matched by economic, evocative prose in this delightful tale of a family of otters who are on the move, in search for a new home. -- Carousel 20061010 ...a gently story which is ideal for bedtime reading with young children and the washed out watercolour illustrations add to the calming mood. -- www.adoption-net.co.uk 20060925
