Description
A narcissistic young man falls under the influence of a hedonist who declares that beauty and sensual fulfillment are all that matters. To ensure the endurance of his youthful good looks, Dorian Gray strikes a Faustian bargain in which his appearance remains unchanged but his portrait reflects every ugly action of his amoral life. This splendid hardcover edition of Oscar Wilde's classic novel features 12 evocative black-and-white illustrations by British artist Henry Keen.
Author Biography
Printmaker, painter, and lithographer Henry Keen (1899-1935) is best known for his illustrations for Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray and John Webster's The White Devil and The Duchess of Malfi. Poet and playwright Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) remains best known for his comedies of the 1890s, including The Importance of Being Earnest, and for his tragic imprisonment and untimely death. His only novel, the horror classic The Picture of Dorian Gray, continues to inspire works in the genre.
