Description

'An absorbingly and well-written book' New York Times Major Harry Maxim, ex-SAS and special adviser to number 10 Downing Street, is about to get drawn into conflict on an international scale. An English corporal, a cabinet convulsion in East Germany, and a double murder in a small West German town all seem to be connected by a dark secret from the past, and it's down to Harry Maxim to uncover before it's too late. The Conduct of Major Maxim is the second novel in the Major Harry Maxim Series. 'Gavin Lyall is one of the best writers of intelligent, macho, spy thrillers in the business' Spectator

Author Biography

Gavin Lyall (1932-2003) was a Royal Airforce pilot, journalist, and prolific author of spy and aviation thrillers. His years as a Royal Air Force pilot lent his fast paced, tautly written aviation thrillers authenticity. His first novel, The Wrong Side of the Sky, was inspired by his personal experiences in the Libyan and Greece and became an international bestseller. He also worked as a journalist, first with the Picture Post and the BBC, then as the Sunday Times' aviation correspondent.

Reviews

An absorbingly and well-written book. -- Newgate Callendar * The New York Times * Lyall's work, characterized by a dry humor, an elegance of style and a gallantry having nothing to do with sentiment, has been earning acclaim and awards on both sides of the Atlantic. * The Globe and Mail * A smooth, urbane and witty outing. * The New York Times * Gavin Lyall is one of the best writers of intelligent, macho, spy thrillers in the business * Spectator *
