Description
Freddy thinks he has committed matricide, and his fantasies - or perhaps realities - become stories which twist back through time to varying landscapes. He searches for a home, only to find it in an unexpected place. When able and allowed to return to the present, he can choose which tale to tell.

Reviews'A strong savour of ORLANDO about it- that is, of Woolf at her most flirtatious, bold and Colette-ish.' INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY 'A wonderful feat... the descriptive writing, the sheer joy of words...' DAILY TELEGRAPH 'Some of the most voloptuous language since Joyce... so rich, so crammed with stories, imagination and visions.' DAILY MAIL 'A wildly inventive exploration of the mother-daughter relationship, by the wonderful Michele Roberts.' Joanna Trollope 'Imaginative use of language... exqusitely done... a highly entertaining novel.' SUNDAY TIMES 'Italo Calvino meets Angela Carter with a little help from the Marquis de Sade... a serious treat.' MAIL ON SUNDAY 'Female sexuality burns brightly... Reading her prose... is almost a sensual experience in itself.' THE TIMES 'Michele Roberts constructs her book like a set of Chinese boxes or Russian dolls. She mixes memory and desire, blurs the boundaries between imagination and reality, between the conscious and the unconscious self.' SPECTATOR 'Playful, subversive and erotic, this powerful new novel explores the reverberations through time of broken family relationships, and ultimately reveals the reparative powers of love.' PUBLISHING NEWS 'Characters and themes tease in and out of these lush, sexy tales, finally looping them together in cohesion.' VOGUE 'Each story leads so compellingly into the next that at the end of this book, starting over again is irresistable.' TIME OUT 'As ever, the author giftwraps her own female anger in layers of charm and humour.' COSMOPOLITAN 'Witty, original and very sexy, it engages the mind as it indulges in forbidden pleasure.' OPTIONS 'I came away from this book reeling from Michele Roberts' sheer inventiveness... outstanding.' GOOD HOUSEKEEPING 'These vivid tales with themes of mother love, family loyalty and passion will keep you on tentahooks.' WOMAN'S JOURNAL 'Michele Roberts's prose is characterised by an imagistic sensuality... utterly absorbing.' SUNDAY TELEGRAPH
