Description
Make head-turning designer jewellery using simple crochet techniques and beautiful yarns and embellishments. This delightful book features 40 original pieces that are easy to make - even if you have never crocheted before. Choose from multi-coloured bead and crochet necklaces; lacy spiderweb chokers; delicate yarn and wire bracelets; fun and funky cherry earrings; pretty mohair flower pins; elaborate cocktail rings embellished with beads and stones. Experiment with a range of materials, from sumptuous ribbon and eyelash yarns to silver and gold wire, and find out how to decorate your finished piece with beads, crystals, ribbons, feathers, embroidery, and silk flowers. All the core techniques are demonstrated with step-by-step photographs, from working basic stitches to adding finishings and findings, and each design includes a recipe of ingredients, suggested colour palette, and easy-to-follow instructions.
Author Biography
Carol Meldrum has a background in textiles and a love of craft. She has worked as a Design Consultant for Rowan Yarns and has written several craft books including Knitted Icons, Anova's quirky book on knitting your own popstar. Carol lives in Glasgow but teaches craft workshops all over the UK. Since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, she has worked within the textile industry as a designer for many High Street fashion outlets as well as internationally renowned hand knit label Rowan, and her unique take on all things textile can be found online at www.beatknit.com and in selected boutique shops in Scotland. Carol's main goal is to give others the confidence to create handmade objects of their own, by sharing skills that have been handed down through generations to produce new and exciting projects that will inspire others to do the same.
ReviewsChapter one covers all the basics. It covers yarn, beads, findings, tools and equipment. The step by step instructions on the basic stitches and techniques are excellent. The instructions are accompanied by clear diagrams and photographs. This chapter takes you through everything that you need to know right up to finishing your article. The following chapters cover the projects. Once again the instructions are excellent with very good photographs of the finished articles.-Lesley Nutbeam (Bead Society of Great Britain)
