Description
As a new collector, how do you identify pieces of lasting appeal that will make valuable additions to your jewelry collection? Collect Contemporary Jewelry steers the novice collector through the whole process of acquiring contemporary jewelry, from studying the works of different designers, and the materials and stones they use, through commissioning jewellers, to storing and cleaning pieces. Forty jewelry artists, both established and emerging, are profiled in detail, with information on their background and training, favoured materials and techniques, and sources of inspiration. The selection is truly international, ranging from the United States, Turkey, Japan and Germany to the United Kingdom and beyond. From Marta Mattsson's reindeer skin and silver bow brooch to Nora Fok's knitted nylon finger extensions, Giovanni Corvaja's 'gold fur' pieces and Georg Spreng's iconic 'ice-cream cone' rings, these imaginative creations are guaranteed to include designs to suit all tastes, from the more traditional to the truly adventurous. Jewelry lovers will feel inspired by the diversity and creativity of the featured works. These artists are the names to watch; they create both the concept and the finished piece, getting involved in all aspects of the creative process and treating jewelry as 'wearable art'. They share a commitment to craftsmanship and high-quality material. Collect Contemporary Jewelry will empower any budding collector to make informed choices and so begin building a collection of enduring relevance and value.
