Description
Niina Laitinen is one of the most popular knitting designers in Scandinavia. This stunning collection of sock designs is inspired by the four seasons. Each of the 20 gorgeous patterns is accompanied by a beautiful description of the Finnish countryside that evokes the spirit of the Nordic seasons. The designs feature elements of nature in the shape of leaf patterns and beautiful lace and cable textures, to gorgeous colourwork featuring a geisha, a butterfly and heart patterns. They are knitted with the changing moods of the seasons in mind and include lightweight ankle-length designs for spring and summer, and heavier knee-length patterns for the colder winter weather. All the patterns have detailed charts to follow and range in difficulty from easy to more complex designs suitable for more advanced knitters.

ReviewsWhat a splendid knitting book. Each sock has a name, a story. There are socks for different seasons. Some socks with easier patterns to get you started. The knitting charts are an excellent idea that helps so much to understand the patterns. A truly fabulous book to give you the confidence to knit socks. -- Pauline Forster * Amazon Customer Review * This stunning collection of 20 patterns is inspired by the four seasons and includes beautiful descriptions of the Finnish countryside. Patterns range from summer ankle socks to heavy knee-length designs. All patterns have detailed charts and vary from easy, to complex socks for advanced knitters. * Machine Knitting Monthly * This is the fourth book by the author, who is an established knitting designer. You get a sense of the designer with the patterns being arranged around the four seasons, five socks per season. She offers patterns for ankle, mid-calf and knee-length socks with an interesting range of lace, cable and sumptuous colourwork designs. The instructions are well-written and there are very clear coloured charts. There is plenty of variety to pique your interest. The stated readership is competent to experienced knitters and the patterns are rated from fairly easy to more complex. As a fairly novice lace and cable knitter, I would find them challenging, but potentially achievable and I am certainly keen to give them a go. There is a helpful page of knitting tips and the usual list of knitting abbreviations at the start of the book. Very helpfully, those explanations of knitting abbreviations are repeated with each chart which helps someone like me, who would otherwise be flipping back and forth to the front of the book. Alternative yarn options are listed [...] This s a professionally produced book with enticing instructions. If you like socks with plenty of detail, then you should check out this book. -- Maggie McArthur * Slip Knot *
