Description

A fresh, modern take on classic lace knitting! When it comes to stunning lace knitting, there are few names more synonymous with the craft than Romi Hill. Her designs have made by thousands of knitters and her latest creations in New Lace Knitting will have you racing for your needles and skeins of yarn to cast on beautiful, artful, sophisticated pieces. These 19 garment and accessory designs will reawaken your love of traditional lace knitting by using classic stitch patterns in fresh ways--whether you're creating shawls, cardigans, pullovers, or wraps. Through these pieces, you'll be treated to the incredible versatility of lace- how stitch patterns change in different weights of yarn, how you can use that stitch pattern sparingly or for your whole project, and how little knitterly details make a lace project truly elegant, whether it is for every day or special occasion. You may be familiar with knitting lace, but this is New Lace Knitting!

Author Biography

Rosemary (Romi) Hill always loved being crafty, but never imagined she could be lucky enough to do it for a living! Although she had knit on and off throughout most of my life, it was learning to knit lace in 2005 that kindled her true passion for fiber and needles! Romi's work has appeared in numerous publications, among them Knitty, Knitscene, Interweave Knits, Twist Collective, and in several books. A library of her designs can be seen at ravelry. com/designers/rosemary-romi-hill. She is also the author of Elements of Style: Knit & Crochet Jewelry with Wire, Fiber, Felt & Beads (Interweave 2008)

Reviews

"New Lace Knitting is a beautiful collection of garments and accessories presented in a unique way. Each chapter focuses on a classic lace stitch or motif. This stitch is then used in all the pieces (usually 3) within that section. It's stunning and beautiful and inventive." --Heather Zoppetti Designs "New Lace Knitting is a fresh, modern take on classic lace knitting!... New Lace Knitting also features lovely and bright, clear photography. The patterns are well written and easy to follow and have charts and written instructions...knitters of all generations and skill level would enjoy this lovely collection of lace patterns!" --Very Shannon "Rosemary has created a book of cohesive lace designs that incorporate some common lace motifs, but use them in new and unexpected ways." --Knit and Travel and Such "There are two words in the knitting world that mean magic, Romi and Lace... New Lace Knitting is exactly what you would expect from Romi. She challenges you to not just knit well but to love what you are making, to craft something you are proud of, and to take a deep breath and enjoy the whole process... This book will delight you and inspire you." --Yarn Yenta "Romi Hill is one of my favorite designers, especially for lace. She has a way of making yarn disappear into a cohesive sheet of etched beauty." --Clara Parkes, Knitter's Review "Her designs are beautiful; the lace is integrated, matched perfectly to each piece and looks effortless... All of her lace is beautiful, but never too precious or hard to knit that you wouldn't wear it. Her patterns are so well planned and executed that they are a joy to knit." --knitty.com "Romi has created beautiful projects, each of which looks carefully at the lace stitch used, the yarn, the color, the drape of the fabric and of course, the fit of the finished garment. Romi gets these elements right every time." --Nancy Marchant "Full of beautifully conceived garments with unusual and very flattering shapes, they give Rosemary an opportunity to translate her aesthetic into the third dimension. We are treated to a host of feminine, wearable designs for work, relaxation, and after hours." --Anne Hanson, Knitspot "...she has a way of knitting lace that makes you wonder, how does she do that?" --Tanis Knits "Lace is perfect this time of year because ... instant ventilation! We love, love, love the Williwaw cardigan with its asymmetric closure ... and the Manzanita tee, with its lace yoke and picot hem, which can go from the mountains to the Met, depending on how you style it. There are nineteen patterns here-garments, shawls, scarves, hats-all making us ache to doff our fishermen's knits in favor of those that let the sun shine in." --Vogue Knitting
