Description
On the eve of the fiftieth anniversary of his architectural firm, Robert A.M. Stern articulates the principles that govern his design process through a rich visual presentation of projects from all aspects of his practice and all periods of his work. Robert A.M. Stern Architects has a wide-ranging practice, with projects for museums and cultural institutions, colleges and universities, commercial and residential developers, and, famously, private residential clients throughout the United States and Europe. Central to the work is a commitment to an architecture that reinterprets the past to serve contemporary life.
Author Biography
Educator, historian, and architect, ROBERT A.M. STERN is the founding partner of Robert A.M. Stern Architects and former dean of the Yale School of Architecture. He is the author of the monumental five-volume history of New York's architecture and urban development, culminating with New York 2000. The firm's most significant project, the gothic style Benjamin Franklin College and Pauli Murray College, is documented in The New Residential Colleges at Yale- A Conversation Across Time (2018).
ReviewsStern and his team have transcended his postmodernist origins to arrive at a style both original and entirely in keeping with existing environments. Open Studio is a celebration of decades of the firm's designs, and the photograph-heavy book is sure to delight. - The New Criterion
