Description

Award-winning and world-renowned design firm IDEO uses a hallmarked process of first-hand observation and experimentation to inform and inspire its innovative work. Now, at long last, IDEO reveals these working methods for idea and product development. Each of the 16 experiments in this book posses an unexpected question: What if your watch could tell time slowly or quickly? Each is a true experiment, the outcome of which even the authors did not know when they began. Each of the experiments looks at human-centered phenomenon to show how looking anew at people's thoughts, desires, senses, and feelings can inform innovative and surprising design.

Author Biography

A design director in IDEO's New York office, Martin Bone has contributed his talents to a diverse range of work from conceptual explorations to award-winning products, like his Handspring Visor Edge, a recipient of a 2002 Industrial Design Excellence Award. His work on the 2010 Vision project was featured in Business Week, and his designs have been displayed in various museums including MoMA in New York. The conceptual mobile office he designed for Steelcase is in the permanent collection of SFMoMA. Author and designer Kara Johnson works at IDEO on design strategy, conceptual design, and feasibility assessment. Kara received her PhD at Cambridge University, England, where she developed creative ways to introduce materials to industrial designers. Kara has also worked at Arthur D. Little, a consulting company in Cambridge, MA, and as an independent consultant to sports equipment companies like TaylorMade Golf and Atlas Snowshoes. Independently ranked as one of the most innovative companies in the world, IDEO is the design and innovation firm that created many of the things that you use every day, including the first mouse for Apple, the first laptop computer, and hundreds of other popular products and services.
