Description
This stunning book celebrates the work of the British fashion icon Zandra Rhodes. Internationally recognised, Zandra's designs have always been clear but creative, dramatic but graceful, bold but feminine, and her garments have a timeless quality, which makes them unmistakably a Rhodes creation. Published to coincide with an exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum, Zandra Rhodes - A Lifelong Love Affair with Textiles highlights classics from the Rhodes collection such as the famed "Dinosaur" coat, the Lily collections, Conceptual Chic, the Chinese series, and the rarely seen Spanish Impressions and Medieval collections. It also showcases contemporary work from Zandra's studio, as well as examples of the great influence her style and work have had on fashion designers today. The book goes on to look at Zandra's creative process, the textile printing process and the fantastic, romantic finished product. The book, like the exhibition, is split into seven sections: Process, Shape, Colour, Technique, The World, The Dress and The Woman. Process - Tracks Zandra's creative process from sketch to finished garment. Shape - Introduces the unique principles of Zandra's design techniques. Colour - Celebrates one of Zandra's trademarks and highlights the daring but disciplined three-colour combinations present in almost every single Rhodes print. Technique - Showcases a favourite Rhodes collection - Conceptual Chic and Punk. The focus will be on the tearing, slashing, and safety-pinning techniques that made history in her 1977 collection. One World - Looks at the cultural influences on Rhodes's designs, with examples from the Chinese, Mexican, Spanish Impressions, Cowboy and Indian Feathers collections. The Dress - Displays ten examples of Rhodes's best-selling dress 73/44. First designed in 1973, The Dress has been re-interpreted through the years in different fabrics, patterns and themes. The Woman - Devoted to Rhodes herself. Includes contributions from Manolo Blahnik, Brian Eno, Anjelica Huston, Kaffe Fassett, Christian Lacroix, Andrew Logan, Issey Miyake and many more! Illustrated throughout with dazzling colour photographs by photographers such as Richard Avedon, David Bailey, Guy Bourdin, Barry Lategan, Norman Parkinson and Francesco Scavullo.
