Description
The first book on the impressive collection of George R. Kravis II, founder of the Kravis Design Center--one of the leading collectors of modern industrial design in North America. A must-have for lovers of modern design, this is a perfect follow-up to Vintage Industrial and an accessible, but authoritative introduction to this field. An exquisitely curated selection of 100 pieces from the Kravis Design Center's industrial design collection, this book features works by some of the most important figures in the history of design: Peter Behrens, Russel Wright, Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Alexander Girard, Ettore Sottsass, and Yves Behar.
Author Biography
Collector and philanthropist George R. Kravis II has cultivated one of the preeminent collections of industrial design. He established the Kravis Design Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to make his collection available to a wide public. He was a communications entrepreneur, forging a career in radio broadcasting, being one of the youngest people to own a jazz radio show and going on to own a number of radio stations. George Kravis is brother to Henry Kravis, the billionaire co-founder of Kohlberg, Kravis Roberts, one of the largest private equity firms in the world. Penny Sparke is a professor in the School of Design and Art History at Kingston University London. She has written extensively on historic and contemporary design.
