Description

Dreams, the subconscious, and the involuntary sensual associations of synesthesia are among the forces that find expression in the large-scale figurative paintings and droll day-and-night drawings of Belgian contemporary artist Rita de Muynck. Expressionistic and richly colored, de Muynck's paintings draw viewers into a rich world of sensual experience. This lavishly illustrated book--the first to turn the focus on de Muynck's body of work--presents the artist's paintings, drawings, installations, and sculptures from 1998 to the present alongside an interview with de Muynck and a selection of essays and literary and scientific texts. Together, the paintings and writings in Rita de Muynck: Under the Skin contribute to an understanding of how the artist's distinct style is characterized by the interconnectedness of the senses and the expression of existential experience.
