The book also contains 3 larger paintings that demonstrate how to combine the elements learned into vibrant and inspiring landscapes Build up your skills in easy chunks, learning about form and composition, colour mixing, working with acrylics and capturing the drama of the natural world. Author Biography
Barry Herniman is a full time artist who has been painting landscapes and seascapes for many years. He is particularly fond of painting landscapes but also feels right at home painting anything from portraits to steam locomotives. He now travels extensively, both home and abroad, tutoring workshops and demonstrating to art clubs and societies and has had exhibitions in England, Canada and the USA. Barry won the Artist of the Year Award for the SAA in 2001 and the Harper Collins Award Patchings 2000. He is a regular contributor to The Artist magazine.
ReviewsLandscapes in Acrylics by Barry Herniman is part of the Ready to Paint in 30 Minutes series from Search Press. Barry provides us with 33 basic studies covering all aspects and techniqus necessary to paint convincing landscapes in acrylics. There;s useful advice on what materials to choose, colour mixing, laying washes and clever tips. The 30-minute time limit concentrates the mind so that you are able to get straight on with learning, with each study focusing on a particular aspect of the landscape. The exercises are worked at postcard size to keep them manageable and all the required tracings are included to help you on your way. Three step-by-step demonstrations put all you have learned into practice. * Leisure Painter * Have you ever wanted to paint some beautiful natural scenery, but don't have a day to spend on it? Barry Herniman has created a beginner's guide to painting landscapes in acrylics, with 33 exercises to build your skills that each take just 30 minutes to complete! * Crafts Beautiful - Christmas Special 2020 * There's something for everyone in this welcome addition to an excellent series. Barry covers trees, rocks, buildings, water, skies and even seas. Demonstrations use the watercolour technique, so you'll be working on paper without impasto. I've yet to see traceable outlines that work on canvas, though I can't see why it would be impossible. This isn't just a good book within the series, though, it's a very thorough grounding in landscape elements and techniques in its own right and something to consider even if you don't want pre-drawn outlines. -- Henry Malt * Artbookreview.net *
