Description

True well-being isn't hard to find. You just have to know where to look. Destination Wellness combines travelogue, narrative journalism, and a relatable search for health and happiness to reveal a diverse array of philosophies, lifestyles, and practices for better living. Health and travel journalist Annie Daly combines on-the-ground reporting and personal narrative to explore off-the-beaten-path philosophies and practices for better living around the globe, as an antidote to America's toxic wellness industry. She travels to Jamaica, Brazil, Japan, India, Norway, and Hawaii to learn why their inhabitants are so much healthier and happier, and what we can learn from them. While these traditions may appear to have little in common, their roots provide an essential truth: living well isn't a trend-or a competition, and it certainly isn't something you can buy.

Reviews

"Annie Daly delivers a timely and much-needed reminder that healthy living today doesn't have to be so complicated. Her thoughtful and inspiring book will be helpful for anyone who wants to get healthier without all the gimmicks-and travel the world vicariously along the way." -Dan Buettner, National Geographic Fellow, New York Times bestselling author of The Blue Zones "#1 Best Coffee Table Travel Book" --WeAreTravelGirls.com "Sometimes it takes somebody like Annie going around the world to shed the light for the rest of us." --Zibby Owens, Moms Don't Have Time to Lose Weight podcast "Like a Blue Zones guide for the body." -Shape "What may sound like a travel writer's cushy, decidedly pre-Covid boondoggle in fact offers up low-cost, deeply rooted customs that reveal how living well is less about exclusive products than intentional, inclusive choices." -The Slowdown "With gorgeous photography throughout, Destination Wellness is as much an armchair travel book as it is a source of inspiration for living a more well-balanced life." -Conde Nast Traveler "In a world where what's common sense is often overlooked in favor of elaborate wellness rituals, it's helpful to have books like Destination Wellness to remind us what really works: connections to community and nature, in a nutshell. It will inspire action-getting down to the beach; texting family more often-which is more than most books can take credit for." -Foreword Reviews
