Description

The South Island of New Zealand is brown trout country without peer. Amazingly varied landscapes and waterways greet the angler at every turn of the road. Streams range from tiny lowland spring creeks to huge, snow-fed giants. Brown trout are found in these streams in good numbers. Most important, perhaps, is the impressive size and sheer beauty of these wild fish. A Stroll Through Brown Trout Country is a celebration of Les Hill and Graeme Marshall's exploration together of brown trout habitat, spanning more than three decades.

Author Biography

LES HILL and his camera are virtually inseparable, especially when anywhere near a trout stream. Anglers and nature lovers world-wide have taken pleasure in his images which have appeared in numerous publications. His photographs appear regularly in NZ Fish and Game magazine. A retired teacher, Les now resides in Hokitika on the West Coast, where, apart from trout, he enjoys hunting salmon, whitebait, and red deer. GRAEME MARSHALL has been a regular writer for NZ Rod and Rifle for over 25 years and has also written a number of hunting books. For more than 10 years he worked as a trout fishing guide in the Nelson area. He and his wife Raewyn now reside in Pleasant Point, South Canterbury, where he combines secondary teaching and guiding. A dedicated salmon angler, Graeme's other interests include sea fishing, whitebaiting, big game hunting and waterfowling.
