Description
The Orvis Guide to Upland Hunting provides an in-depth primer for new or aspiring hunters, offering a solid understanding of upland hunting from A to Z. With stunning images by acclaimed outdoor photographer Brian Grossenbacher, this book is far more than an instructional piece: it will give the pursuit of upland game birds flesh, emotion, and identity. The book offers instruction on the finer points of selecting and fitting of a shotgun, specialised field gear, and the keys to proper wing-shooting technique from stance to gun swing as well as describing the bird species and habitats that define North American upland hunting. It then delves into scenarios that involve entering the field, hunting with a guide and dogs, and dispatching and processing harvested game. From gun safety and ownership to sustainable, ethical hunting practices, this book teaches and inspires the complete hunter through well-written and informative text and the best photography from the field.

Reviews"A beautifully written and photographed resource that provides an in-depth primer for new or aspiring wingshooters, covering all aspects of upland hunting, from selecting ammunition to field dressing game birds." -Covey Rise Magazine "This is the essential compendium for a day in the field... covering everything from selecting ammunition to field dressing game birds. That includes the fine points of selecting and fitting a shotgun, help in finding the right field gear, tips on proper wingshooting technique from stance to gun swing, a comprehensive guide to all American game birds and dog species, ideal locations to pursue your prey and even a dose of gun safety and ethical hunting practices. Quite simply you can't, or anyway shouldn't, do without it, even if you're just starting out by shooting clay pigeons (there's a chapter on that as well). As author Bryant notes, you may just find yourself aiming to become a 'master of something rich in tradition essential poetry,' following a gun dog through the Octobers of your life..." -Airows.com "The Orvis Guide to Upland Hunting provides a comprehensive introduction to the sport for either newcomers or Boomers who hunted in their youth, drifted away during the family years, and now are looking to return to an upland landscape transformed by progress-for all its good and ill. Amply illustrated with color photos by Brian Grossenbacher, the book covers all the bases: birds, dogs, guns, gear, clothing, where and how to hunt, and what to do with the game once you've bagged it. Bryant is a good writer with good things ahead, and the Guide shows he's arrived." -Shooting Sportsman "The Orvis Guide to Upland Hunting is an extensively illustrated and expertly written resource for new or aspiring hunters to enter the realm of wingshooting. This new guide explores all aspects of upland traditions, including species descriptions, firearm selection, gear reviews, hunting dog breeds, public/private access, safety precautions, field dressing and much more!." -Pheasants Forever
