Description
This meditation text belongs to the type of Buddhist literature known as "Shastra", a didactic commentary of the teachings of the Buddha. Divided into three sections, the work first deals with the suffering experienced by those immersed in a wordly life of attachment. The second section discusses solutions to this suffering, including various meditation practices. The third section shows how the results of these practices find expression in a daily life free from preoccupation with wordly affairs and in harmony with the teachings. In this edition this text is complemented by a modern commentary.
Author Biography
Patrul Rinpoche (1808 1887) was one of the greatest Tibetan teachers of the nineteenth century. Famous for his precise and direct style, he shunned high monastic office and lived the life of a homeless wanderer, writing his book in a rustic hermitage under an overhanging rock.
