Description
The classic guide to the practice of unceasing prayer found in THE WAY OF A PILGRIM. Thousands have fallen in love with the anonymously authored book The Way of a Pilgrim - the account of an ordinary man's encounter with the Eastern Orthodox Christian practice of the Jesus Prayer, which consists of the constant repetition of a short phrase such as "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon me." The practice transformed the author's life as he wandered throughout the Russian countryside saying the prayer and recording his experiences with it. Readers of the book in its time would have had a wealth of teachers to approach for learning the prayer themselves and working with it, but modern readers have nowhere to go for this. Here, then, is the perfect introduction to this life-changing practice, as it was taught by one of the great spiritual lights of Russia. Bishop Ignatius Brianchaninov provides wise instruction and advice covering all aspects of the practice, from how to get started, to dealing with difficulties that arise, to dealing with the people who don't understand what you're doing, to making the Jesus Prayer (also called the Prayer of the Heart), an integrated part of your life.
Author Biography
