Description
These Granite Islands is an arresting novel about a woman who, on her deathbed, recalls the haunting and fateful summer of 1936, a summer that forever changed her life. Sarah Stonich's debut novel, set on the Iron Range of Minnesota, is an intimate and gripping story of a friendship, a portrait of marriage, and a meditation on the tragedy of loss.

Reviews"These Granite Islands is the kind of book that instills hunger for more; like a well-paced feast, it continually stimulates the appetite and puts off satiety until the very last course." -Los Angeles Times "Stonich perfectly captures the essence of a woman facing her death, and her portrait of Isobel's family is touching and honest. A wonderful read." -Library Journal "In delightfully clear and uncluttered prose, Stonich explores the grand themes of love, passion, forgiveness, and friendship and presents philosophical issues in the context of lives fully lived by vivid and convincing characters." -Booklist "Stonich unfurls a complex, many-layered, suspenseful story; and, like Susan Minot and Anita Shreve, she handles flashbacks and contemporary details with equal precision." -Publishers Weekly
