Description
Originally published in 1932, this volume provides a highly readable history of St Michael's Mount, the enigmatic tidal island off the coast of Cornwall. After a general introduction, the reader is taken through the various stages of this history. Attention is given to the significant position of the Mount as both a religious and secular site, together with its speculated identity as the Ictis, or Mictis, documented by the Romans. Thomas Taylor (1858-1938) was a priest, historian and Celtic scholar who spent a large part of his life living and working in Cornwall. Combining historical rigour with engaging narrative, this volume reflects his fascination with the subject. It will be of value to anyone with an interest in British history, Cornish history and historiography.
