Description
Insect pests are largely controlled by toxic chemical pesticides which cause environmental, health and resistance problems. Consequently, alternative methods of control are being sought and adopted. Insect parasitic and insect killing nematodes provide some of the most promising new alternatives to chemical insecticides. They can be used to control a wide range of insects, are no-polluting, non-toxic and are environmentally friendly in many other ways. They are compatible with other biological and chemical agents and have the distinct advantage over most other forms of insect pest control of being able to seek out pests in cryptic habitats such as tree borers or insects living deep within the soil. Commercialisation of nematodes has generated considerable interest and has resulted in increased research and publication on these important biological control agents. This book, written by foremost experts from around the world, provides insights into the latest developments in this exciting new discipline and into the prospects of the future.
