Description

This long-awaited magnum opus by a preeminent scholar and teacher consists of commentaries on two Tibetan texts of interest to students of Vajrayana Buddhism in the West. The main commentary is on a brief text concerning the preliminary practices (ngondro) that are the foundation of Vajrayana Buddhism: the Dudjom Tersar Ngondro ("New Treasure of Preliminary Practices of Dudjom"), a well-known 'treasure text' (terma) revealed by Dudjom Lingpa (1835-1904, a noted terton, or discoverer of treasure texts). The approach to ngondro discussed here is the one most commonly followed by Western practitioners. The second commentary is on a short prayer written by Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche. Together, these commentaries are the occasion for Thinley Norbu Rinpoche to impart his powerful insights into various aspects of the buddha dharma from the tantric point of view, and thus the book will be of interest even to readers who are not practicing the ngondro.

Reviews

"Thinley Norbu's commentary is not only profound but also refreshingly clear, making it valuable and accessible to both experienced practitioners and those new to this path."-Tricycle "This magnificent original work on the ngoendro practice of Tibetan Buddhism is cause for celebration. Rich with scriptural citations, incisive reasoning, and personal realization, it shows that the ngoendro is not just a preliminary teaching but the quintessence of the Vajrayana path. All Vajrayana followers must treasure this masterpiece of profound teachings by one of the greatest masters of our age."-Tulku Thondup, author of Peaceful Death, Joyful Rebirth and The Healing Power of Mind "A Cascading Waterfall of Nectar is one of the most profound dharma books I have ever read. Read it slowly, like poetry, savoring and contemplating each sentence, and you will be rewarded with the highest Buddhist view."-Melvin McLeod, Editor-in-Chief of the Shambhala Sun and editor of the Best Buddhist Writing series
