Description

The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living is a practical, inspirational guide that combines the wisdom of the Dalai Lama's eastern spiritual tradition with human happiness expert Dr Howard C. Cutler's western perspective. From health, self-esteem, family and relationships to anger, stress, anxiety and jealousy, they apply the principles of Tibetan Buddhism to everyday problems and reveal how we can find balance and achieve lasting happiness in our lives. Mental wellbeing and the power of positive psychology have never been so important, and, more than ever, people are turning to the world's great spiritual leaders in their search for meaning. The Art of Happiness is a landmark book that will continue to uplift spirits around the world for decades to come.

Author Biography

DALAI LAMA: Born in 1935 into a farming family in northeastern Tibet, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama was recognised early in his life as a reincarnation of the Thirteenth Dalai Lama. By age four, he was enthroned in Lhasa. During the 1950s, the political stability of Tibet was threatened when China's People's Liberation Army entered the country and established a military presence. Increased tensions put the life of the Fourteenth Dalai Lama in danger, and in 1959, he fled the country at night to Dharamsala, India, where he established the Tibetan government in exile. HOWARD CUTLER, M.D.: Dr Howard Cutler is an author, speaker and psychiatrist. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and was on the editorial board of THE AMERICAN JOURNAL OF PSYCHOTHERAPY. Dr. Cutler's field of special interest is the science of human happiness. He met the Dalai Lama in 1982 while visiting India on a research grant to study Tibetan medicine, and after THE ART OF HAPPINESS spent 97 weeks on the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller list, they went on to write two more books together. Dr Cutler maintains a private practice in Phoenix, USA.
