Description

This core textbook provides a comprehensive and focused introduction for business students to the application of IS in organisations, using a systems-theory approach, with extensive examples, case studies and online videos to bring the topic alive. Terminology is admirably clear and topics are interconnected so that students get a sense of the whole, not a series of isolated issues. This new edition of Business Information Systems hones the framework and approach developed in the first edition, retaining its best features and making improvements to aid student engagement and learning. Written by a highly experienced lecturer and researcher, this will be essential reading for undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA students taking modules in information management systems in business.

Reviews

'Writing a text book that is theoretically grounded, covers the subject in sufficient breadth AND depth, provides new insights based on research, and also guides readers into how to practice business information systems - it sounds an impossible task but Paul Beynon-Davies succeeds masterfully. Highly recommended.' - Leslie Willcocks, Professor of Technology Work and Globalisation, London School of Economics and Political Science, UK 'Business Information Systems is essential reading for all business and ICT related students covering all of the key techniques and theories in business information systems with leading edge examples. It provides in-depth analysis of the key concepts and approaches used in business analysis and is written by a world leader in the field.' - Craig Standing, Professor of Strategic Information Management, Centre for Innovative Practice, Edith Cowan University, Australia 'Provides an easy-to-understand framework for IS principles. Each chapter is rich with examples that make it easy for a student to identify how these principles actually work in today's organizations.' - Clare Branigan, Lecturer, School of Business, University College Dublin, Ireland Paul Benyon-Davies weaves together business sense, technical scope and a broad, humanistic appreciation of the impact of information systems. His examples and thought points help to establish really applicable and sustainable learning from this rapidly changing field. Very readable and of interest to students of business and society, but also a text that would enrich the context for those studying the more technical aspects of information systems - Pericles Rospigliosi, Senior Lecturer in e-commerce and management information systems, Brighton Business School, University of Brighton
