Although Holmes was not the first literary detective, he continues to have a perennial allure as the ultimate sleuth. Nigel Cawthorne is a prolific author who has already written The Brief History of Robin Hood for the series. He has also written extensively on true crime including as the co-author of Jack the Ripper's Secret Confession and has be a life-long Holmes obsessive.
