Description
Venetian glass originated more than a thousand years ago and is the oldest example of artistic glass in Europe; it has always been a topic of considerable interest on the part of scholars and collectors the world over. This book focuses on the activity of the numerous manufacturing companies that were founded and that developed from the outset of the century, and the personalities that were responsible for its often profound renewal: Carlo Scarpa, Gio Ponti, Ettore Sottsass, followed by the Memphis Group, as well as many architects and designers from Italy and abroad, Arturo Martini, Gino Rossi, Napoleone Martinuzzi, and Vittorio Zecchin.
Author Biography
Marino Barovier was born in Venice into one of the oldest families of master Murano glass-makers, active as early as the 1400s. He organises exhibitions, writes and curates art catalogues.
