Description

Piecing with intention simply means taking the time to think about how you cut your fabrics and where they will end up appearing in the finished quilt. From fussy cutting particular design elements from commercially manufactured fabrics to working with selvages and stripes effectively, Amy offers readers unique patterns (quilts, a clutch and even a tote with 10 interchangeable paper piecing patterns to customise-perfect for gifting) that feature precise piecing for graphic and sometimes whimsical results. Fabric is the focus of this book: how to work with your favourite fabrics effectively to achieve the patchwork results you want. Foundation paper piecing is the most effective way to achieve perfect blocks even from the smallest pieces of fabrics, so most of the patterns are created using this method, but there are some traditionally pieced and applique projects as well. Amy includes both smaller projects and larger quilts-truly something for everyone. AUTHOR: Amy Friend is an award-winner quilter and a former museum curator. A member of the Modern Quilt Guild, Amy enjoys paper piecing and modern quilt design. She blogs at www.duringquiettime.com. Her first book, Intentional Piecing: From Fussy Cutting to Foundation Piecing, was published in May, 2016. 160 colour illustrations

Reviews

We live for fabric so we want to do each of our prints justice when we use them in projects. Amy Friend's new book, Intentional Piecing, is focused solely on making those designs really shine. From fussy cutting to FPP, she takes us through the best techniques for each kind of fabric, teaching mindful project planning and best print picking practice. * Love Patchwork and Quilting * Position, position, position - fussy cutting mindfulness leads to quilting with interesting motifs. Choosing fabric is paramount and you can follow Amy's questions to ensure you select the best fabric for the job. Sew a variety of projects given in the book to practice Amy's piecing techniques. The projects are useful and interesting. I particularly like the 'My Tribe' quilt but there are also bags, pillows, an applique cardigan and more to make. Templates are given at the back of the book, but are nor full-size, so you will need to enlarge. * Karen Platt -yarnsandfabrics.co.uk *
