Description
During the coldest winter ever, George and Gracie land in Menlo Park, New Jersey, 1879 near Thomas Edison s famous laboratory. Mr. Edison has just invented a long-burning light bulb, but he's keeping a huge secret: he s also discovered time travel. In fact, he built his own time machine. The kids get an even bigger surprise when a young Mr. Crowe walks into Edison s laboratory as his assistant! The older and dangerous Mr. Crowe is sneaking around Menlo Park, too, with plans to destroy the time machine. If he does, George and Gracie will be stuck in 1879 . . . forever. The twins need Mr. Edison's help. But can they stop Crowe in time?
Author Biography
Carol Lynch Williams is the author of more than 25 books for kids and teen readers. She runs Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers (in it's 14th year), has an MFA in Writing for Children and Adolescents from Vermont College and writes on an active blog with fellow writers Ann Dee Ellis and Kyra Leigh Williams (www.throwingupwords.wordpress.com). She teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University. Her books include The Chosen One, Glimpse, Miles from Ordinary, Waiting with Signed, Sky Harper, and The Haven (forthcoming). She is proudest of her five daughters who are the Carol's best creative effort, ever. She and Cheri have been best friends for almost 20 years. Cheri Pray Earl graduated with her MA in Creative Writing from Brigham Young University in 1995 and has taught writing and literature courses for the BYU Honors Program and English Creative Writing Program for the past twenty years; she was awarded BYU Honors Professor of the Year in 2005 (which she brags about whenever she can). She published a non-fiction children's book for American Girl co-authored with Rick Walton in 2009, but in real life she writes young adult novels; she won the Utah Original Writing Competition in 1994 for the YA novel, Flat Like Me, and took Honorable Mention in 1997 for the YA novel, The Swan.
Reviews""Kids are going to enjoy this fast-paced, sometimes funny and always heartfelt, adventure that blurs science fiction with history. George and Gracie are heroes for the ages--past and present. Can they save their parents? Only time will tell."" --Kathi Appelt, Newbery Honor winner of The Underneath History can sometimes be long and tedious. The Just in Time series by Cheri Pray Earl & Carol Lynch Williams are short, believable tales that move along quickly with generous doses of suspense and action. Perfect for Common Core curriculums, students will find themselves quickly enveloped in page turning narratives. A history treat for sure!
