Description
Izzy loved her island. But most of all, she loved Frank the seagull. Izzy loved her island. But most of all, she loved Frank the seagull. Izzy and Frank spend blue-sky-sunny days and grey-cloud-rainy days roaming and playing by the sea. But when Izzy has to leave her lighthouse and island life behind to move to the city, she also has to say goodbye to Frank. The city is crowded and noisy, and Izzy misses the sand and the sea. Can Izzy find a place for herself in her new home? And will she ever see Frank again? 'Lehman's sweet story is beautifully composed and full of satisfying alliteration ("wild-wind-blowy days" and "sparkly, spiky starfish"), and Beer's illustrations are just as lovely. Set to a striking palette of turquoise and orange, the wonderfully detailed artwork invites readers into both the spacious seaside and the landlocked cityscape. Izzy's journey will particularly resonate with young readers who have faced a change of address, helping them remember that home (and fun) can be found anywhere, with anyone.' -Booklist 'Peppered with sensory images - 'wind that whistled and wailed,' 'crusty crabs,' and 'sparkly, spiky starfish' - the alliterative text invites reading aloud. With its perky palette of aqua and orange, the simple, playful illustrations show Izzy as an exuberant white girl with freckles and unruly red curls who gradually adapts her free-spirited island life with Frank to an urban venue with new, diverse friends. Beautifully pitched tale for kids leaving behind familiar places and moving to new ones.' -Kirkus Reviews 'This is a lovely story about a unique friendship between a little girl and her seagull that also touches on the trauma of moving house and starting a new school.' FOUR STARS -Good Reading
Author Biography
Katrina Lehman (Author) Katrina lives in Melbourne with her three children, a gardener/baker/handyman husband, and a blue tongue lizard. She is lucky enough to spend all day crafting words as a writer and as an editor, helping authors unleash their inner magic. Sophie Beer (Illustrator) Sophie Beer is an illustrator from Brisbane, Queensland. She completed dual bachelors in Law and Creative Industries at Queensland University of Technology before turning freelance. Revelling in colour, shape and texture, she lives by one simple rule- art should never be boring. When she's not illustrating, she's usually found drinking dangerous amounts of tea and indulging in her other passion- literature.
