Description
Sometimes a girl just has to do what's in her heart ... By day Miles Franklin, named after the famous author, is a successful lawyer. But by night she writes historical romance novels under the pen name Emma Browning. When Miles's assistant covertly enters her novel in one of Australia's biggest literary awards-and it wins-Miles's perfectly ordered world is ripped to pieces. Lars Kristensen smells a rat. As the CEO of Iconic International, the company publishing Miles's prize-winning novel, he's determined to meet the author and uncover her true identity. But Miles is equally determined to protect her privacy-and to keep writing. Even if it means mastering pole dancing, and choreographing a love scene in the back of a horse-drawn carriage ... Well, she is a romance writer, after all. She has the grit to keep her secret, but Lars has the smouldering looks and arrogance of any romantic hero Miles has ever imagined. Hmm. Sometimes a girl just has to turn the page ...
Author Biography
Penelope Janu has six children (rapidly growing up) and two large dogs, and lives on the coast in Sydney. She had a long career as a solicitor and legal academic before her debut novel, In at the Deep End, was published in January 2017. This was followed by On the Right Track in 2018. Penelope writes full time, except for voluntary legal work, and completed On the Same Page while studying an MA in Creative Writing at UTS.
Reviews'Endearingly quirky and utterly charming. Funny and sweet and wonderful.' Amy Andrews, USA Today bestselling author PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S IN THE DEEP END: "This one gave me all the smiles and all the tender moments. There was a gentleness about so many of the characters and I fell for each of them, regardless of their plights in life or what life has thrown them. Alongside the painful issues the characters are fighting to get over, we have the environment, the beach, adventurers, ships, Antarctica, Australia, and Norway. Penelope Janu blended everything perfectly, and gave me a story I'd read again." -- Jennie Jones PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In at the Deep End 'I adored this book. It's right at the top of my, "When I Have Time I'm Going To Read It Again" list.' -- Victoria Purman PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In at the Deep End 'Stayed up late last night to finish this wonderful novel - very engaging. The backstory floats artfully into the main plotline and I was a little in love with the romantic lead by the end. Very enjoyable to read a book set in Sydney's Northern Beaches, which were beautifully captured.' -- Mary-Anne O'Connor PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In at the Deep End 'Penelope Janu's In at the Deep End was a delightful read from beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed Penelope's bracing and crisp style and look forward to the next story.' -- Darry Fraser PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In at the Deep End 'Love, love, love. Harriet and Per are my new favourite characters, backed by solid cameos from a quality cast. Layered with the long-term effects of deep childhood wounds, unwavering loyalty, environmental impacts, and a red-hot attraction, this is a book I'll remember for a long time. Funny, smart, sad enough to make me cry on a train (thanks!), and perfectly satisfying at the end. Read it.' -- Phillipa Nefri Clarke PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In at the Deep End ''Eek, where to start?! This is one of my favourite reads so far this year. The sort of book I keep on hand for when I'm bored or need a bit of a pick me up. I can open it to anywhere and just start reading and sink back into the story. There are just books that tick all your boxes and come along at the right time and this is one of them. For me it was just a really well executed story with two main characters that sizzled and some good supporting characters as well. I cannot wait for Penelope Janu's next book. But while I wait for that, I think I'll be re-reading this one a few more times!' -- 1girl2manybooks PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In At The Deep End 'In At The Deep End by Penelope Janu was a surprise awesome read. I'm glad it was recommended to me and it has been added to my fave reads for 2017. Harriet and Per were completely attention grabbing together and the plot was a stand out. Emotional, shocking, turbulent, thought-provoking and unputdownable. This was a story I could read again and again and I would not tire of the characters. It really was a feel good read and a story that this reader finished with gusto and had me frowning and smiling through to the conclusion :)' -- Talking Books PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In at the Deep End (In at the Deep End was chosen as one of the top five romance picks of the month by Booktopia) 'After a few pages of In at the Deep End, I dug out one of my borrowed (ahem) Do Not Disturb signs and hung it on my door. I knew from page 6 I couldn't be interrupted; this book had to be devoured whole. And that's exactly what I did. There's no insta-love here, no instant weakening of the knees. Instead, what we have is witty conversation, simmering tension (yes, sexual as well), and a cast of characters that are just like grandma's hugs: warm, comforting and you can't get enough of them. And that's just the way I love my romances. If it isn't already clear, I absolutely loved this book! Penelope's writing is invigorating and engaging, and it's refreshing to not have a hero who's typically American, English or Russian. This is my first romance with a Norwegian love interest, and now all I want to do is rummage through bookstores and scour the internet for more romances with Norwegian heroes. Just between you and me, I'm so thankful Penelope has been offered a two-book deal.' -- Booktopia Australia PRAISE FOR PENELOPE JANU'S In at the Deep End 'I can guarantee you that this book holds wit, fun and something a bit different, plus more. It's a wonderful debut with some of the most crackling wit I've found in any books I've read. (The relationship between the leads) crackles, sizzles and fences its way to love. It's an honest story that shows both Harry and Per at their best and worst and the fun is in their dialogue and two steps forward, one step back dance. The story starts at a cracking pace and doesn't really let up - if there's not some action to be had in the water, there's a lot of verbal action between Harry and Per. I know it sounds like I'm going on about the dialogue, but it really is that good. It's the kind of rapid fire wit that makes you smile and chuckle. Plus, the dialogue seems so natural, it's amazing. Their story is feisty, messy and simply a great read.' -- Sam Still Reading
