Description
'Who rescues, and who is rescued? This is the question that hovers in The Heart of a Horse. Tender and sometimes tragic, this is a book of love stories with much to say about the human heart, and how it expands through intimate relationships with our planet's other animals - furred, feathered and hooved.' Geraldine Brooks, Pulitzer Prize-winning author '... This book charts a journey to a more enlightened self through a compassionate connection with animals, both domestic and wild, and the gifts that such a connection can give us when we respect and listen to the needs of the animals in our lives' - Karen Viggers, bestselling author of The Lightkeeper's Wife When Candida Baker left her city lifestyle and high-profile job to live in the hills behind Byron Bay, little did she realise this was the first step on a journey of self-discovery - through her natural horsemanship, photography and writing - to an enhanced sense of spiritual and psychic connection with the animal world. Told through a series of true stories, at its essence The Heart of a Horse is about learning to 'listen' with all our senses. Using her lifelong love of horses as the main conduit for bridging the gap between our thought processes and intuition, Candida describes the magic that happens when we keep an open mind about the idea of communication.

Reviews'Who rescues, and who is rescued? This is the question that hovers in The Heart of a Horse. Tender and sometimes tragic, this is a book of love stories with much to say about the human heart, and how it expands through intimate relationships with our planet's other animals - furred, feathered and hooved.' Geraldine Brooks, Pulitzer Prize-winning author 'In this beautifully written, warm invitation to observe the world through the eyes of animals, Candida Baker offers a passionate and often humorous insight into her relationships with the horses and other animals that have shaped her life. As a horse-lover, horse rescuer and horse "listener", Baker shows us that a deep communication with animals is possible when we are willing to expand our belief systems. This book charts a journey to a more enlightened self through a compassionate connection with animals, both domestic and wild, and the gifts that such a connection can give us when we respect and listen to the needs of the animals in our lives' - Karen Viggers, bestselling author of The Lightkeeper's Wife 'Candida's book is a great collection for anyone to read. There's food for thought for even experienced horse men and women in there, and at the same time, you don't have to be a horse person to love these stories of the many different horse characters who have passed through her life. I remember Johnny, the cheeky Arabian who came to me for training to this day, and his story is a lovely tribute to a lifelong family commitment to a horse. I'm happy that I could help a horse rescuer on her journey.' Adam Sutton (Allround Horsemanship)
