Author Biography

John Brewer is Deputy Vice Chancellor at Buckinghamshire New University as well as a Professor of Applied Sports Science. An acknowledged expert in endurance running and elite sport, he has been a competitive runner for over 40 years, having completed numerous races over various distances, still actively taking part in both off-road and road racing events. He has completed the London Marathon on 20 occasions, and in recent years has acted as a coach and mentor to a number of celebrities undertaking the London Marathon course. John has published many academic papers on endurance sport and sports nutrition, and is the author of five books, including Run Smart (Bloomsbury 2017), Running Science (Ivy Press 2018), and Sport in 30 Seconds (Ivy Kids 2019). A regular contributor to Trail Running and Running Fitness magazines, he has written for many running magazines and websites, and also wrote the official London 2012 Training Guide to Athletics: Track Events. John is a former Board Member of UK Anti-Doping, and a strong advocate of clean sport. He has appeared regularly on TV and radio, and in the written press, providing views and insights into a range of sports science and sports related topics.
