Description
A world of 400 facts, all connected in surprising and hilarious ways! Choose your own path through this ingenious web of astounding information. Did you know that bacteria from between people's toes has been used to make cheese? Or that the world's most expensive cheese is made from donkey milk? Or that the milk from one species of cockroach is the most nutritious substance on Earth? Or that a cockroach can survive for weeks without its head? Welcome back to FACTopia, a world of perfectly amazing facts, all of which are verified by Encyclopedia Britannica! Every fact in the book is connected to the next in an ingenious trail of information, where you will hop from topic to topic in unexpected and hilarious ways. And there's not just one trail through these pages: sometimes your path branches and you can choose to jump to a totally different (but still connected) part of the book. Let your curiosity lead you through this witty wonderland of facts!
Author Biography
Kate Hale is a writer, editor and professional fun fact finder. A former executive editor for National Geographic Kids' Books, she's edited or written about everything from dog communication to wacky roadside attractions, biographies of inspiring scientists to profiles of the cutest animals on Earth. Kate also co-created and hosted the award-winning kids radio program The Weird But True Show! on SiriusXM, which covers weird but totally true facts about the human body, animals, space and everything in between. When she's not hunting for new facts, Kate enjoys gardening, playing video games, and planning road trips to national parks. She currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, U.S.A. with her husband and rescue dog. Andy Smith is an award-winning illustrator, and studied illustration at the University of Brighton and the Royal College of Art, London. ReviewsThis cleverly illustrated and very appealing compendium of facts will entertain those readers who love learning new snippets of information to share with their friends and family. * Read Plus * Hop from topic to topic in unexpected and hilarious ways. * It Girl * With its bucketful of weird and wonderful facts, Return to FACTopia will draw plenty of giggles, gasps of disbelief and will have children keenly sharing as many of the facts with as many people who are willing to listen. Loved it! * A Word About Books * Return to Factopia! is a compendium of short, fun facts presented within brightly coloured and illustrated pages. I was particularly struck by the original and creative presentation of the book. Besides the vibrant and funny, cartoon style illustrations, there's novelty text aplenty. With fun facts about unusual restaurants, surprising and unexpected snippets about animals, space travel, food, the ancient world and many more, it's an enjoyable book for kids to dip into now and then for a giggle or to learn a few fun facts to impress. I recommend Return to Factopia for 7-9 year olds who enjoy factual texts that extend their general knowledge. Being an easy and entertaining read and a text that can be read in snippets, it's an excellent option for kids who're used to fast paced entertainment and it would suit reluctant readers who find the length of a novel daunting. -- Barbara Swartz * Reading Time *
