Description

The Kiln Book is a well-established classic in the field of kiln building. This 4th edition is a fully revised and updated version, bursting with colour images of kilns in all their various stages of construction. The most comprehensive book on kiln building available, all the essential information is provided on important basics such as all types of bricks, ceramic fiber, angle iron and other building materials, chimneys, kiln design and draft and fuel choice. It covers all kiln types including gas, wood, oil, electric and various combinations, as well as being packed with plans, drawings and advice. It gives you the details and the finer points which are crucial for those building more ambitious kilns. There are many other kiln books but none so comprehensive.

Author Biography

Fred Olsen has been a ceramic artist for over 40 years, and is very well established in the field, both in the UK and USA. He often demonstrates kiln building at Aberystwyth Ceramic Festival, as well as building kilns at many other conferences and workshops around the world and is generally regarded as the authority on kilns. He sells his own designed kiln kits to potters around the world. His first kiln book was published in 1973 and it has been continually revised and expanded since then.

Reviews

This book is without a doubt the most important published work on ceramic ovens. * Ceramica * A very comprehensive review of refractory materials, the methods and principles of kiln construction, fuels, combustion and firing systems and things to watch out for from a safety viewpoint ... I can see and understand how useful and informative this book will be for anyone planning to get or build a new kiln. -- Stephen Dee * Studio Pottery *
