Kevin Ireland lives in Devonport and is one of New Zealand's most prominent and well-loved writers. His first book of poetry Face to Face was published in 1963, followed by seventeen further collections. He has published a collection of short stories, six novels and two memoirs. Kevin has won numerous awards, including the 2004 Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement and in 2006 the A W Reed Award for his contribution to New Zealand literature. In 2000 he received an honorary doctorate from Massey University.
