Description
LOVE IS NOT FOR COWARDS is a guide to developing a more loving and honest relationship. Leading Danish psychotherapist ,Birgit Weber, believes we can only create close relationships through facing our inner conflicts that are developed in early life. This involves us recognising childhood influences on our behaviour and their effects on our feelings as adults. In Birgit Weber's view, we are influenced by the love, or lack thereof, we experienced in our childhood. What did our parents teach us about ourselves, and what have been the consequences of that? The relationship we had with our parents sets the scene for our reaction to the loves we meet later on. LOVE IS NOT FOR COWARDS encourages us to look at inappropriate patterns or 'blind spots' we may have formed in order to survive as children. Birgit Weber explores how these may have developed, the way they still may affect our love relationships and what it takes to shed them in adulthood. Only when we take responsibility for our own problems can we develop a relationship where love deepens. There are common traps we can fall into - trying to change each other through criticism and manipulation in order to avoid coming into contact with our own inner conflicts, for example. LOVE IS NOT FOR COWARDS is at once confronting, insightful, reassuring and exhilarating. On the challenging journey of love and self-exploration, this book is a valuable companion.
