Description
Following the success of Salt Beneath the Skin, Tessa has collected together another volume of high quality maritime writing. The pieces featured are of equal interest to those in the first book, and include stories by Andrew Fagan who writes of learning to capsize in windy Wellington waters and Pippa Blake, who tells of her voyage back to New Zealand with new husband Peter. Also included are extracts by Rob Hamill, on rowing across the Atlantic in the dead of night; Jane Taylor learning the ropes as a WREN; Hec Busby on the waka moana symposium; David Lewis on Polynesian navigation; and Brian Clifford, who learns to sail a junk en route from Hong Kong to New Zealand. Many other authors are featured in this excellent anthology, which will provide great summertime reading.
Author Biography
Tessa Duder is one of New Zealand's best-known writers, especially for young people. Her first book, Night Race to Kawau, had a nautical theme, while her award-winning Alex quartet of junior novels was made into a feature film. Tessa is also a keen sailor, having sailed extensively in the Hauraki Gulf and Lake Taupo and served on the Spirit of Adventure Trust. Her old cutter, Undine, was a familiar sight on the Waitemata Harbour between 1987 and 1994. Earlier in her life, Tessa Duder won a Commonwealth Games silver medal for swimming.
