Beach Houses

Description

This book visits some of the beach houses around the Australian continent and New Zealand. While many of these homes go well beyond the humble shack in terms of design, they display a rawness and sense of adventure that is indicative of both cultures. Whether the beach house is camouflaged by coastal bushland, or cuts a monumental swathe above the shoreline, the sites prove far more difficult than those of the suburban street. Nevertheless, the onstraints are challenged head on, creating adventurous architecture in the process. The houses featured in this book are as diverse as the architets and climates that surround both of these countries. Stephen Crafti lives in Melbourne, Australia. He trained as a town planner but was seduced by the field of architecture and design after conducting extensive research on his post-war modernist home. He now works as a freelance writer and has been published extensively in magazines and newspapers, both locally and internationallly. Beach Houses is is his first book.
