Description

This work is a comprehensive state-by-state history of the Aboriginal experience. It is made up of a series of regional Aboriginal histories by Australia's leading historians, originally written for the Royal Commission into Deaths in Custody. Covering the whole span of white settlement in Australia, the book gives special emphasis to relations between Aborigines and the state, the impact of interventions by various governments on Aboriginal lives, crime and punishment and social control. The book provides a summary of legislation, policy and practice, police and politics, economics and land rights throughout Australia.
