Description
Now that Berlin is once again the capital city of the reunited Germany, its importance has changed from being on the frontline between the opposing armies of NATO and the Warsaw Pact, to most of the City's buildings are now either new or restored after the war. In the last ten years entire new districts have grown up on the site of the now disappeared Berlin Wall. The illustrations will include the Reichstag with its new glass dome, the museums and churches around the Unter den Linden and on Museum Island, the restored old districts just north and east of the centre, the old and the new ministries and government buildings and the gleaming new development around Potsdamer Platz. All these make Berlin an exciting and changing city for those interested in architecture, old and new. The book will illustrate some forty of these buildings. A short description will accompany each, including the relevant details of its architect and dates of construction and reconstruction.
